This Privacy Policy explains how STEP 22 Gear (“STEP 22,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, retains, and safeguards personal information when you visit or use www.step22gear.com, place an order, create an account, communicate with us, participate in a program, or use a STEP 22 return, exchange, claim, warranty, or other service.

By using our website, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. Where consent is required by applicable law, we will request it separately.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Information You Provide

We may collect personal information that you provide directly to us, including:

  • Contact and account information, such as your name, email address, telephone number, billing and shipping addresses, account details, and communication preferences.
  • Order and transaction information, such as products viewed or purchased, order history, discounts, rewards activity, shipping information, transaction details, and payment status.
  • Payment information. Full payment-card details are processed by third-party payment providers. STEP 22 does not typically receive or store full payment-card numbers.
  • Communications and customer-service information, including emails, chat messages, telephone communications, support requests, survey responses, and other correspondence.
  • Return, exchange, shipping-claim, and warranty information, including the reason for a request, answers submitted through a portal, photographs, videos, documents, tracking information, inspection findings, claim history, and communications relating to the request.
  • Reviews and other submitted content, such as ratings, testimonials, comments, photographs, videos, contest entries, social-media content, tagged posts, product suggestions, and other feedback.
  • Promotion and program information, including newsletter sign-ups, rewards activity, contest entries, event registrations, and responses to promotional offers.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit or interact with our website or services, we and our service providers may automatically collect information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, device identifiers, cookie identifiers, pages viewed, products searched or added to a cart, referring and exit pages, date and time of visits, interaction data, and approximate location at the city or state level.

Information From Other Sources

We may receive information from Shopify, payment processors, shipping carriers, Redo, Shipsurance and insurance or claim administrators, product manufacturers, warranty providers, customer-support platforms, email and messaging providers, review and rewards services, fraud-prevention and security providers, analytics and advertising partners, public records, social media, and other service providers or business partners.

COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

We and our service providers use cookies, pixels, tags, local storage, and similar technologies to operate the website, remember preferences, maintain shopping carts, support account and checkout functions, understand website traffic and usage, improve performance, personalize content, prevent fraud, and provide or measure marketing and advertising.

Some technologies are necessary for the website to function. Other technologies may be used for analytics, personalization, or advertising, subject to applicable law and your available choices. You can manage non-essential cookies through our cookie consent banner where available and through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect website functionality.

Where required by applicable law, we recognize valid browser-based opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, for the browser or device sending the signal. Other “Do Not Track” signals may not be recognized because there is no consistent industry standard for interpreting them.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We may use personal information to:

  • Operate the website, create and manage accounts, process payments, fulfill orders, provide tracking, and deliver products and services.
  • Process returns, exchanges, package-protection claims, wrong-item reports, warranty claims, chargebacks, and other order-related requests.

  • Provide customer support and respond to questions, requests, complaints, and other communications.
  • Send transactional communications, including order, payment, shipping, delivery, return, claim, warranty, recall, and safety messages.
  • Send review, survey, or feedback requests where permitted by law and consistent with your communication choices.
  • Send marketing communications where permitted by law and consistent with your choices.
  • Administer promotions, rewards, surveys, contests, events, and other programs.

  • Comply with legal, tax, accounting, regulatory, insurance, safety, and recordkeeping obligations.
  • Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims and protect STEP 22, our team, our customers, our partners, and others.

Automated Tools and Artificial Intelligence

We and our service providers may use automated tools, artificial intelligence, or machine-learning systems to assist with customer support, trend analysis, personalization, fraud and abuse detection, security, return or claim review, and other business operations. These tools may process information such as contact details, order history, website activity, communications, and claim information. Automated tools may assist with organizing submissions, identifying patterns, detecting fraud, and generating recommendations. STEP 22 manually reviews each return, exchange, and claim request before authorization. Refunds and exchanges are finalized only after any returned product is received and inspected, as described in the applicable policy.

PROTECTION, ABUSE PREVENTION, AND ENFORCEMENT

We use personal information to protect our business, team, partners, customers, and services and to help maintain a safe and respectful environment. This may include:

  • Monitoring for, investigating, and responding to misconduct, fraud, threats, harassment, abusive behavior, false claims, chargebacks, or other misuse of our website, apps, services, programs, or communication channels.
  • Enforcing our Terms and Conditions and other policies, including canceling or refusing orders, blocking or limiting access, suspending accounts, denying program participation, or placing individuals on customer exclusion, suppression, or do-not-sell-to lists.
  • Preventing certain individuals from receiving marketing, being targeted with our ads, or otherwise interacting with our marketing channels, including by using suppression audiences on platforms such as Meta, Google, and similar services.
  • Combining information we hold with information from fraud-prevention services, public records, social media, service providers, advertising partners, carriers, payment providers, and other lawful sources to identify misuse, protect against abusive conduct, and prevent repeat violations.
  • Preserving records reasonably necessary to document and enforce restrictions, claims decisions, fraud findings, safety concerns, disputes, and legal rights.

SHARING OF INFORMATION

STEP 22 does not sell personal information for money.

We may disclose personal information to service providers and other parties that help us operate our business or provide services to you, including:

  • Shopify and website-hosting providers;
  • Payment processors and financial-service providers;
  • Shipping carriers, fulfillment providers, and address-verification services;
  • Redo, Shipsurance, insurers, and return or claim administrators;
  • Product manufacturers and warranty providers;
  • Email, SMS, customer-support, review, rewards, and communications platforms;
  • Fraud-prevention, security, identity-verification, and chargeback providers;
  • Analytics, advertising, and marketing partners;
  • Technology providers offering artificial-intelligence or machine-learning services;
  • Legal, accounting, insurance, compliance, and other professional advisers; and
  • Government authorities, regulators, courts, law-enforcement agencies, or other parties when required or permitted by law.

Some providers process information on STEP 22’s behalf and are restricted by contract or law in how they may use it. Other providers—including payment processors, shipping carriers, Shopify, Redo, Shipsurance, insurers, and warranty providers—may process information as independent businesses under their own terms and privacy policies.

Our store is hosted on Shopify. Shopify processes customer information as described in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy. Redo processes return, exchange, claim, warranty, communication, fraud, and related information as described in the Redo Privacy Policy. Checkout+ package-protection matters may also be subject to the Shipsurance Coverage Terms for the Redo Insurance Program.

Redo Cross-Merchant Data Sharing

Through Redo’s cross-merchant data-sharing service, Redo may use and share certain purchase-history and behavioral information across participating Redo merchants to personalize shopping experiences and help detect potentially fraudulent transactions, subject to applicable notice, consent, and opt-out requirements. You may opt out of Redo’s cross-merchant data sharing through the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option described in the Redo Privacy Policy.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, protect rights, property, safety, or security, investigate suspected violations, enforce agreements, or respond to an emergency. Information may also be disclosed in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or other business transfer.

CUSTOMER CONTENT AND CLAIM MATERIALS

Public and Promotional Content

If you voluntarily submit a review, testimonial, photograph, video, social-media post, contest entry, or other content for publication or promotional use, we may use that content as described in our Terms and Conditions.

Operational and Claim Materials

Information and materials submitted solely for customer support, an order issue, a return, exchange, shipping claim, warranty claim, fraud review, safety concern, chargeback, or legal matter are used to evaluate, administer, document, investigate, defend, or resolve that matter. Submission of those materials does not, by itself, authorize STEP 22 to use them publicly for advertising or promotional purposes. We will obtain separate permission when permission is otherwise required.

ADVERTISING, SALE, SHARING, AND TARGETED ADVERTISING

Although STEP 22 does not sell personal information for money, certain disclosures of identifiers, device information, internet activity, commercial information, or inferences to advertising and analytics partners may be considered a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under some privacy laws.

Where applicable, you may opt out through our cookie consent controls, through any “Your Privacy Choices” or “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link made available in the website footer, by using a recognized browser-based opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control, or by contacting us using the methods below.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS

If you subscribe to our mailing list or otherwise opt in, you may receive promotional emails or messages from us. You can opt out of email marketing at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email. You may opt out of SMS marketing by following the instructions in the message or contacting us.

Opting out of marketing does not prevent us from sending transactional or service-related communications, such as order confirmations, payment notices, shipping updates, delivery notices, return or claim communications, warranty messages, safety notices, or responses to your requests.

We may also send review, survey, or feedback requests where permitted by law. You may opt out using the unsubscribe or other opt-out method included in the message.

DATA RETENTION

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to maintain accounts, fulfill orders, administer returns and exchanges, process package-protection and warranty claims, resolve chargebacks and payment disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, maintain suppression or restriction records, address product-safety matters, comply with tax, accounting, insurance, legal, and regulatory obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

Retention periods vary based on the nature of the information, the transaction or request involved, legal requirements, fraud and security needs, and whether the information is needed to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. Deletion requests may be subject to legal exceptions, and some information may remain in backups or de-identified records for a limited period.

SECURITY

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. These measures may include encryption in transit, secure payment processing, access controls, account protections, monitoring, and restricted access to sensitive information.

No method of transmission, storage, or security is completely secure. Although we work to protect personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS

Depending on where you live and the law that applies, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to or a copy of personal information we hold about you;
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information;
  • Request deletion of personal information, subject to applicable exceptions;
  • Request portability of certain personal information;
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or the use of personal information for targeted advertising;
  • Limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and

To exercise a privacy right, contact us through the Contact Us form or by phone at 949-445-6800. We may request information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and the request. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authorization and identity verification.

We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. Some requests may be denied or limited where an exception applies, including when information is needed to complete a transaction, detect fraud, maintain security, comply with law, exercise legal rights, or preserve records required for legitimate business purposes.

CALIFORNIA AND OTHER U.S. STATE PRIVACY RIGHTS

Residents of California and certain other U.S. states may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws, including rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of personal information; opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising; limit certain uses of sensitive personal information; and receive equal service and pricing when exercising those rights.

Depending on how you interact with us, the categories of personal information we may collect include identifiers and customer records; commercial information; internet or other electronic-network activity; approximate geolocation; photographs, videos, and other audio or visual information; communications; inferences; and sensitive personal information such as account credentials or payment information processed by service providers.

The sources, business purposes, and categories of recipients for this information are described throughout this Privacy Policy. We may disclose these categories for business purposes to the service providers and other recipients identified above. Certain disclosures to advertising and analytics partners may be considered sale, sharing, or targeted advertising under applicable law, even though STEP 22 does not sell personal information for money.

California residents may submit requests through the Contact Us form or by phone at 949-445-6800. Where available, you may also use the website’s cookie controls or privacy-choice link to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising. We honor valid Global Privacy Control signals where required by law.

INTERNATIONAL USERS AND TRANSFERS

If you access our website or services from outside the United States, your personal information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States and other countries where STEP 22 or our service providers operate. Those countries may have data-protection laws that differ from the laws where you live.

Where the laws of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland apply, our legal bases for processing may include performance of a contract, compliance with legal obligations, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the business, and consent where required. You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information and to withdraw consent. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

Our website and services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.

Individuals under 18 should use the website and place orders only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian.

LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES

Our website may contain links to third-party websites, platforms, or services. STEP 22 does not control and is not responsible for the privacy, security, content, or practices of unaffiliated third parties. Review the applicable third party’s privacy policy before providing personal information.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, services, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. The current version will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We will provide additional notice of material changes when required by law.
