No Tembo Tusk Skottle kit is complete without a Steam Lid....and no Steam Lid is complete without a custom STEP 22 Collapsible Handle!
The factory steam lid plastic handle is known to crack or break during use and transport. We solved that problem by creating a soft flexible handle that lays flat when not in use and will not break when it gets beat up in the back of your rig on the trails! This handle attaches with stainless steel hardware (Stover nuts for safety). These handles easily lay flat when stored in the carry bag along with the rest of your Skottle kit. No more risk of arriving to camp only to find your plastic handle in pieces!
Each handle kit ships complete with mounting hardware for easy install using 7mm (9/32) wrench and socket.

For Overlanding, these handles are light years ahead of the handles that come with the lids provided through most suppliers. You can easily stack a 15†lid inside the 18†or a ... view more14†inside a 15.†Even if you never intend to have multiple sizes of lids, their ability to lay flat lowers the profile of any lid, allowing them to pack better.
At least as important as their low form factor, is their durability. The stock handles are notorious for breaking, often arriving that way upon first delivery. The stick up, making them vulnerable. The stock handles are made of an inherently brittle material. They do a fairly good job staying cool, and providing clearance from the dome lid when handling a hot lid, but the Step 22 Gear handles do these things as well.
So the choice is fairly obvious. The Step 22 handles are more packable, more durable, and match or exceed the best features of the stock handles. There is no area in which they are inferior. I have each size of lid (a couple bought for ridiculously low prices); they all sport one of these handles. view less
